NIGERIA APPROVES US $471M FOR CONSTRUCTION OF 10 ROADS
The Federal Executive Council of Nigeria (FEC) has approved US $471m for award of contracts for the construction and rehabilitation of 10 roads across the country.
Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, said that the approval was the sequel to a memorandum presented to the Council by the Minister on May 2nd, 2019.
“To ensure the realization of federal government’s objectives of restoring growth and investing in the people, the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing decided to initiate the road construction and rehabilitation,” Fashola said.
The housing Minister affirmed that the projects would create jobs for Nigerians, including senior citizens in the country. The minister’s aide added that the projects are also targeted at creating employment for Nigerians. (NAN).
The projects would enhance the Federal government’s objective of improving transportation infrastructure and restoring the nation’s road network as part of the implementation of the Government’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan.
He said that the idea is to open up settlements, provide access for evacuation of goods and services as well as improve the socioeconomic lives of the people within the stretch of the different communities in the project areas.
