LHDA AWARDS SENQU BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION TENDER
• The Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA) has awarded the contract for the construction of the Senqu Bridge to the WRES Senqu Bridge Joint Venture.
• Construction will commence shortly and is expected to take three years to complete. The contract is valued at approximately R2 billion.
• The Senqu Bridge will be almost a kilometre long (825m) with a height of 90m

• JG Afrika, a leading engineering and environmental consultancy, is part of a professional team that is supporting the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area

ARMORFLEX FOR MAMELODI STORMWATER UPGRADES
• Technicrete’s internationally licensed Armorflex Erosion Control System was selected for upgrades to major stormwater systems currently underway in Mamelodi Extensions 4 and 5 north-east of Pretoria
• Based on a trapezoidal channel analysis of water volumes and velocity, Armorflex 140 was selected as the best system to install for the gradual channel to be constructed
• Part of the contractual requirement was to outsource 30% of the work to workers from the local community
ROCLA AND TECHNICRETE SCORE AT CMA AWARDS
• The 2022 Concrete Manufacturers Association (CMA) honoured both Rocla and Technicrete with Engineering Excellence Awards in the Infrastructure and Paving Categories
• Rocla, winner of the Infrastructure Category, supplied over 19kms of HDPE piping to Safcrete Construction for the Polokwane Waste Water Treatment Project which was commissioned by the Polokwane Municipality to upgrade an outdated sewerage system that serviced the Seshego area of Polokwane
• Announced as the winner of the Paving Category, Technicrete’s internationally licensed Armorflex Erosion Control System 140 was selected for upgrades to major stormwater systems in Mamelodi Extensions 4 and 5 north-east of Pretoria. Tefla, who undertook the project, said Armorflex’s easy installation enabled them to outsource 30% of the work to the local community enabling them to add a skills transfer element to the project.
ROCLA SUPPLIES 19 KM’S OF HDPE PIPES FOR POLOKWANE WASTE WATER TREATMENT PLANT
• Rocla’s HDPE vertical cast pipes were specified for two phases of the Polokwane Waste Water Treatment Project
• The project, which was subdivided into three phases, is based in the Seshego area in Polokwane
• Rocla’s HDPE lining offers water and sewer projects advantages such as a surface smoother than concrete
MAJOR GAUTENG PILING CONTRACT FOR MIDRAND APARTMENT BLOCK FOUNDATIONS
• Gauteng Piling has secured a major contract to provide extensive foundation piling for Grand Central Towers apartment block
• The site is roughly triangular and covers 1 259 hectares. The property is bounded to the east by Diagonal Street, to the south by Exchange Street, and on the north and west, by Market Street
• Apart from the shallow rock, the main challenge for the Grand Central Towers project is the casting of column starter bars into the piles
OLD DAME GETS A NEW MAKEOVER
• Repairs to the external façade of a commercial development in De Korte Street in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, has been successfully completed by Citi-Con, a leading concrete repair specialist
• It was an extensive and technically complex undertaking that entailed repairing many thousands of concrete panels that constitute the face of the building
• It involved repair of the joints, reaming out existing material and replacing it with an elastomeric sealant complete polyethylene foam rod.
